Arran Wildlife Festival on track

New co-ordinator sought to match 2008 success

For the past three years, the Isle of Arran Wildlife Festival has proved to be an excellent showcase for the island’s very special wild inhabitants. This year the organising committee will be a sub committee of the Arran Natural History Society.

From the spectacular sights of birds of prey and seal colonies to hidden gems like rare butterflies and bumblebees, Arran residents and visitors alike have been given a fantastic insight into the island’s wildlife with the help of experts and enthusiasts based locally and from the mainland.

The Festival, which will run next year from May 13 to 20, is only made possible through the hard work of the local volunteers on its organising committee. However, making sure the festival runs smoothly will be the job of the new Festival Coordinator.

The post of Festival Coordinator will include organising publicity and promotion, coordinating the input by volunteers and finalising the Festival programme, which is already filling up with a big range of exciting events.

Some of the most popular activities from last year, including boat trips to Holy Isle and minibus safaris, will be back on the timetable, alongside new talks and guided walks for 2009.  The programme will be posted on the festival website www.arranwildlife.co.uk in February.

Jim Cassels, chairperson of the organising committee, said: “The 2008 festival was an incredible success, with people visiting Arran from around the world. We’re all now looking forward to next year, and hopefully we can make 2009, our best year yet.”

The organising committee are keen to fill the position of Festival Coordinator as soon as possible, and if you think you have the skills for the job, they would be delighted to hear from you.  Notes of interest must be submitted to Jim Cassels by Friday 21 November, and the closing date for receipt of tenders is 12pm on Friday 5 December.  For more information contact Jim Cassels at, Kilpatrick Kennels, Blackwaterfoot, Isle of Arran KA27 8EY or email james.cassels@virgin.net
