On Saturday 12 July a
Great Skua (Bonxie) was seen by members of the North Ayrshire RSPB from the
ferry Caledonian Isles. The sighting was closer to Brodick than Ardrossan so was in
Arran waters.
This was the first record of this species in Arran
waters this year. At this time of year these skuas are migrating south from their breeding
grounds in the north.
On 3 August another was sighted close to Corriecravie shore on the south of the island and on 13 August one was off Rubha Glas on the north west of the island. Sunday, August 10

On Friday 11 July a pale phased Arctic Skua was seen from the
ferry Caledonian Isles. The sighting was closer to Brodick than Ardrossan so was in
Arran waters.
This is the first record of this species in Arran

On Sunday 13 July, as well as the more usual sightings of groups of Common Guillemot and Razorbill, a solitary Puffin was also seen from the Brodick to Ardrossan ferry. With the removal of rats from Ailas Craig in recent years the breeding colony there has increased and hopefully this will result in increased sightings in Arran waters.
The sighting on 13 July was closer to Brodick than Ardrossan so was in Arran waters. Saturday, July 5
