On Saturday 3 October during the gale two Little Grebes were fishing with Red Breasted Mergansers in Loch Ranza in the lee of the castle spit. Little Grebe are a passage migrant and winter visitor to Arran with no recent confirmed breeding records on Arran.

The last report of Little Grebe on Arran was on 19 February also in Loch Ranza.
