All the bird sighting records
that have sent to the bird recorder for the Arran Natural History Society ( i.e. me) in the first six months of the year, have been put
into Bird Atlas. As it is now over 15 years since the British Trust for
Ornithology finished the fieldwork for the last breeding atlas and over 20 years
since the last winter atlas, Bird Atlas
2007-11 hopes to provide up to date information on wintering and breeding
birds throughout the UK. All Arran sightings reported to me are contributing to
this data for Arran.
On Arran a good start has been made. The attached
map shows tetrads in which records have been submitted (blue=winter only; red=breeding
only; black=both seasons). For more detail
including detail on specific birds, click this link.
Please, keep those sightings
coming in. Remember
that I am not just interested in rare or unusual birds, but also where there are
numbers of common birds and where there is evidence of birds breeding.
Anything
that is of interest to you will be of interest to me.
